Best 3 Star Hotels In Hong Kong
3 star hotels offer an excellent mid-range option for accommodation anywhere around the world, but many people find that a “3-star” rating can actually mean huge differences in quality.
This is the same in Hong Kong as it is anywhere else on the planet.
Sometimes you can be pleasantly surprised by the facilities and level of luxury you get from a 3-star, and sometimes you can feel very let down.
So, to ensure that you only choose from the best of the best in Hong Kong, we’ve put together what we think (in our humble opinion) are some of the top 3-star offerings in the city.
Hotel LBP
Hotel LBP is located on Hong Kong Island and regularly receives favourable reviews on both Trip Advisor and Lonely Planet.
It’s only a 10-minute walk from the nearest MTR station (Sheung Wan), and the rooms are all at least 21 square metres – which, by Hong Kong standards, is a reasonable size.
The hotel offers a fitness centre, health club, games room, library, and BBQ facilities, along with a restaurant serving reasonably priced food.
All rooms have air conditioning, a work desk, flat screen TV, and various other amenities you’d expect from a 3-star. Also on offer are some suites (and a business suite).
The décor is clean, stylish, and functional. If you’re looking for a good quality, value for money hotel in a great Hong Kong location, it doesn’t get much better than this.
Butterfly on Prat
If you’re looking for a hotel from which to explore this amazing city, the Butterfly on Prat in Tsim Sha Tsui is an excellent choice.
Boasting 158 rooms, the hotel is only a 4-minute walk from the closest MTR station. Thanks to the location, the fact that there’s no restaurant at the hotel is no cause for concern – step outside and there’s an almost bewildering number to choose from.
A nice touch is the use of a free smartphone in your room, offering unlimited local calls and 3G data. And a 24-hour front desk means that you can get help or information whenever you need it.
Twenty One Whitfield
This boutique hotel apartment complex is a little gem. Offering amazing views of the Hong Kong skyline, Twenty One Whitfield offers either regular rooms or suite accommodation.
Each living area is a home away from home, with a 40” HD TV, DVD system with iPod/iPhone docking system, local TV, Now TV and Cable TV, a work desk, and all the other amenities that you’d expect from a decent hotel.
Other little luxuries make this a lovely place to stay, including crystal glasses, good quality tableware and cutlery, as well as white goose down duvets and pillows.
The Jervois
The delightful Jervois Hotel is centrally located on Hong Kong Island, close to Victoria Peak and The Mid Levels.
With designs and furnishings courtesy of French designer Christian Liaigre, the simple yet elegant looks are sure to please even the most discerning of guests.
Each room boasts a 40” flat screen TV, along with free Wi-Fi and fixed broadband connections. Choose from a regular room or a luxury suite in this excellent boutique hotel.
iClub Fortress Hill Hotel
A great little find, the iClub Fortress Hill Hotel brings contemporary to a new level. With 338 rooms ranging from the regular to the super, this is a 3-star hotel with that extra wow factor.
Located right on the water front, and next to City Plaza with its mass of restaurants, shopping, and entertainment options, this is a wonderful choice for those wishing to explore all that Hong Kong has to offer.
Comfort abounds, not to mention the coolest of décor. Book online or through a booking agent such as Agoda or Trivago to find the best deals.
Harbour Bay Hotel
The Harbour Bay Hotel (formerly known as the One Minden Hotel, prior to February 2016) offers all the services one would expect from a top quality hotel – all at 3 star prices.
Located in Tsim Sha Tsui (Kowloon), this is a wonderful accommodation choice for those who want to check out the many eateries in the surrounding area.
A real boutique hotel, each room is individually decorated – and you can choose from a standard twin, right through to premier rooms with views of Hong Kong Harbour.
Plus, the hotel is literally a minute’s walk from the nearest MTR station – the perfect choice for both business and leisure travellers.
The Perkin Hotel
Stylish, comfortable, sophisticated yet affordable… These are just some of the reasons to choose The Perkin Hotel.
Offering some of the amenities you’d expect in a 4 or 5 star hotel (such as a combination of dining options – Japanese, French, and South American), this is the place to come when you’d like 5 star luxury, but not the prices!
There’s a full complement of rooms, from the regular superior right through to the Perkin Suite. And of course, the comfort and décor are second to none – you even get luxurious goose down bedding and pillows, whatever level of room you book.
As you can see, there’s no shortage of good 3 star accommodations in the city – and to get the best prices, it’s worth doing a little bit of detective work before you actually place your booking.
Thanks to English being one of the official languages of Hong Kong, it’s always worth phoning the hotel directly to see if they’ll give you a better price than you can find on the many hotel booking websites.
We’ve already mentioned Trivago and Agoda, but other websites to check include Booking.com, Hotels.com, and Hotels Combined.
Even these sites have differing prices, so be sure to shop around before you sign on the dotted line. One savvy traveller’s tip is to check out the deals you can get through a booking website, then to ring the hotel direct and ask if they can beat the price.
Although they might not give you the room any cheaper, you may well be able to convince them to upgrade you to a higher level room for the same price.
It’s a win-win situation all round – you get a better room, and the hotel doesn’t have to pay the website booking fees…
