The 5 Best 4 Star Hotels in Hong Kong
4 star hotels are a great choice when you want a little bit of luxury, but don’t really want to pay 5 star prices.
The reasons many hotels are “downgraded” from 5 to 4 stars are simply that they lack a certain facility – such as a spa or a swimming pool.
What this means to the savvy traveller is that you get all the luxury you can hope for, but you pay less than you would at one of the top named accommodations.
And in Hong Kong, luxury really is taken to the next level. So many of the 4 star hotels in the city would probably be ranked as 5 star in other countries.
So, with that in mind, we’ve made a list of the 5 best 4 star hotels that you can find in the city.
1. Hotel Icon
Located in Kowloon (in Tsim Sha Tsui), the Hotel Icon is individual, international, and prides itself on providing guests with a memorable and pleasurable stay.
The hotel offers facilities that rival any 5 star competitor, including a spa in which to be pampered, 24-hour health club, rooftop swimming pool, and wonderful dining options.
These include The Market, serving delights from Asia and Europe, Green – a French lovers delight, and Above and Beyond, offering not only stunning views over the city below, but truly authentic Cantonese Cuisine as well.
There are 262 rooms at the hotel, from the deluxe twin through to suite opulence (26 suites in total). Décor is chic and stylish, naturally there’s Wi-Fi throughout, and each room also provides guests with a smartphone offering 3G Internet and unlimited local and international calls.
2. Ovolo Central
The Ovolo Central Hotel is one of 6 that this chain has in the city – but this is most definitely their flagship offering.
Located slap bang in the middle of Central, it’s close to Soho, minutes away from the MTR, restaurants, and shopping, and perfect for both the business and leisure traveller.
The facilities are second to none with a 24 hour gym, 24 hour serviced lounge with free snacks and beverages, flexible check out times, all day gourmet coffee and snacks, in-room technology, free in-room bars and snacks… The list goes on and on…
One thing to be aware of is that the only way to get the very best price at the Ovolo is to book via their online booking system. You’ll definitely get a better rate here than booking on a hotel search site, such as Agoda or Trip Advisor.
3. Mira Moon Hotel
A boutique hotel in the centre of Causeway Bay, Mira Moon has won so many hotel awards it’s impossible to list them all…
Each of its 90 rooms is individually decorated, and you can choose from 3 different dining experiences within the hotel. These are:
- The Super Giant Tapas Bar (serving, you’ve guessed it, tapas, at various times of the day – but also breakfast from 06:30)
- The Secret Garden – a wonderful place to enjoy al fresco dining for breakfast, lunch, or dinner
- The Champagne Bar, where you can enjoy snacks, as well as what such a bar is renowned for…
The room levels at the Mira Moon are all named after their lunar matriarch. Choose from the regular “new moon” accommodation, through half moon, full moon, etc. – right up to the Moonshine Suite – a penthouse delight.
Each room offers Wi-Fi, HD TV, an iPad mini, airplay music system, Nespresso coffee machine, gourmet teacakes, and a laptop sized room safe.
4. Hotel Stage
This Kowloon hotel is not only chic and cultured, but also offers décor and comfort that you’d expect of an accommodation that’s been awarded that coveted extra star.
We assume it’s the lack of facilities such as a gym and health spa that see it graded as a 4 star, but if this doesn’t matter to you, then Hotel Stage will have you pampered and looked after in opulent luxury.
Fancy a bite to eat? Then head to the Kitchen Savvy Restaurant where the attentive staff strive to offer you a menu that “enhances your health, body, and mind” – all wrapped up in delicious Italian cuisine.
If it’s light refreshments you’re after, then head to the Muse Wine bar, where you’ll be surprised by the excellent selection of culinary delights on offer.
The rooms on offer are stunning – as well as comfortable. And if you’re in Hong Kong on a flying visit, you can even book a day studio to enjoy a few hours sleep and freshen up.
Whatever standard of room you book, you’ll enjoy all the facilities you’d expect in this class of hotel – from complimentary coffee through to piping hot power showers and branded toiletries…
5. Lanson Place Hotel
Small, intimate, boutique… These are just 3 words that can be used to describe the Lanson Place Hotel.
Situated in the heart of Causeway Bay, all the hustle and bustle of Hong Kong is right on your doorstep. You can take advantage of the hotel’s library, gym with views over Victoria Park, business centre, 24-hour reception, DVD library, and meeting rooms.
Within all rooms, whatever grade they might be, you’ll get a kitchenette, LCD TV and DVD player, Cable TV, Internet TV, Wi-Fi, a complimentary smartphone with free local and international calls, docking station for all smart devices, wake up calls, and housekeeping services.
Close to Times Square and the Hysan Shopping Centre, you’ll be amazed at how tranquil the hotel is. It really does offer a little oasis of calm that’s the perfect antidote to the craziness that is Hong Kong.
The 5 hotels listed here are ones that consistently gain excellent or good reviews on various review websites, such as Trip Advisor and Lonely Planet.
Of course, be aware that hotels do change hands – especially those that are independently run, so it’s advisable to always do a little of your own investigations before you book a hotel for your stay.
…But as of March 2016, these really are 5 of our favourites. So enjoy, and have a wonderful stay in Hong Kong – a city that is one of the worlds must-sees for everyone, at least once in your lifetime.
