Where the Ultra Rich Buy Property in Hong Kong Revealed
Hong Kong is certainly a tale of two cities when it comes to property – it’s now overtaken both London and New York as the top place in the world for luxury homes. It also has some of the cheapest, but that’s another story…
According to The South China Morning Post, in November 2015 the city officially boasted some of the most expensive accommodation on the planet. So, let’s take a look at some of these, and where, if your pockets are deep enough, you can find them to buy.
Barkers Road, The Peak
The home of Internet King Pony Ma, on Barkers Road, has recently been valued at around $HK 1.8 billion. The CEO of Tencent Holdings (real name, Ma Huateng) purchased this incredible property back in 2009 for the bargain price of HK$480 million.
Since then, the house has been redeveloped, and according to Landscope Christies International Real Estate, it is now worth around the HK$ 1.8 billion mark.
This secluded residence can only be spotted from the wonderful hiking route above Hong Kong, The Dragons Back, and provides its residents with a palatial 19,600 sq. ft. of living space.
So, if you’re in the market for something similar, where are the best places to begin your property search?
Landscope Christies International Real Estate
The already mentioned Landscope Christies is a luxury-only property company that features some of the best real estate Hong Kong has to offer. As of February 2016, the agency offers some super homes available to purchase.
For a cool $HK 45 million, Repulse Bay Road 37 (despite it’s rather bizarre address) offers uber-luxury high-rise apartment living. For this, you get 3 bedrooms (1 en suite), 2 bathrooms, a living/dining area, study, fully fitted kitchen, maids’ room, and balcony with both sea and landscape views.
And if that’s just a little too pricey, there are other properties in the same development starting at the slightly more manageable price of $HK 20 million.
Sothebys International Realty
Another luxury property agent is Sothebys International Realty. Some of their current offerings include a $HK 600 million house called Overbays (once again, overlooking Repulse Bay). For this, you’ll be the proud owner of a 3 bedroom, 3 bathroom des-res that’s spread over four levels.
This waterfront house boasts a private elevator, stunning sea views, and wall to ceiling windows. There are four terraces to enjoy, and of course, the obligatory maids’ quarters.
If you’d prefer to live at The Peak, then you should take a look at About 8, Severn Road, a deluxe house that provides views of both the city skyline and the ocean. This 4 bedroom, 4 bathroom beauty also has a wonderful roof terrace to enjoy the alfresco lifestyle. It’s on the market for a cool $HK 450 million.
Luxe Homes
Luxe Homes has some great properties on their current listings. For a mere $HK 23 million, you could purchase Greenery Garden, on the tree lined Mount Davis Road. This 3-bed luxury apartment also provides great sporting facilities such as a swimming pool, gym, tennis court, snooker room, and squash court, so there’s never any reason to get bored (or unfit!).
Or for $HK 11.5 million, why not take a look at Richery Garden in Midlever East. It’s a slightly more modest outlay, but you still get a super luxury decorated 2-bed apartment with a rooftop garden and parking.
Engel and Volkers
Luxury realtor Engel and Volkers specialises not only in property, but yachts as well. They also advise for those looking for investment properties, and can also handle your leasing and rental needs.
One gorgeous property currently on their books is a detached family home in Shoulson Hill. Here you can enjoy the benefits of a private swimming pool, 6 bedrooms (5 en suite), and smart wiring to all rooms – perfect for this techno world we now live in.
There’s a carport for four cars, and your views overlook a wonderful green landscape. It’s all yours for the sum of $HK 290 million.
And if you’re in the market for a yacht – after all, some are so luxurious you could live on them full time – then this is the place to look. If your bank balance can stand it, you can purchase a sea going motor vessel that can house around 24 guests (you’ll need a crew of at least 10 to man it), and visit some of the most outstanding locations around the world.
With such a purchase, the world really is your oyster.
Luxury Estate
Specialising in luxury villas and apartments, Luxury Estate has some delightful properties on their current listings. For $HK 138 million, this lovely town house in Tai Tam provides a 4-bedroom, 4-bathroom waterfront oasis with every modern convenience you could wish for. Included in the price is private garden and terrace, and of course, private parking for your cars.
Prefer to live in Kowloon Tong? Then a visit to this $HK 238 million dollar property might hit the spot. Providing spacious 5-bedroom, 5-bathroom living, there’s more than enough space here for your family and to entertain friends.
And with a fully equipped Chinese kitchen, the budding chef in you can experiment with dishes to their heart’s content… There’s also a wonderfully spacious roof terrace (perfect for dinner parties), maids’ quarters, balconies, private lift, and stunning views over the city and surrounding countryside.
As you can see, there’s no shortage of luxury property for sale in Hong Kong, and if you’ve got the means, then there are plenty of real estate agents who’ll be happy to show you what’s on offer.
If the property boom and demand in Hong Kong is set to continue (which all the experts seem to be convinced that it is), then even if you’re not looking to live in the city, it certainly could be a good place to invest.
Rental yields are high, and with more and more internationally global companies building a footing in Hong Kong, this only serves well for those with property to rent out. After all, these companies recruit the best talent in the world – and they all need a luxury place in which to live.
